EXPERIENCE:

1997-            Science Department Chair: UMS-Wright Preparatory School, Mobile, AL                              

                     Provide leadership, budgeting, scheduling, curriculum oversight and teacher

                     evaluations related to Science classes (6-12). During my tenure:

                     (1) course selection expanded to include every Advanced Placement Science

                           with increasing numbers of students taking and passing science AP exams

                     (2) encouraged and supported numerous academic teams in science

                           interscholastic science competitions resulting in scholarships & general achievement gains

                     (3) initiated numerous summer camp programs for academic enrichment

         (4) obtained external grants for equipment acquisitions and teacher training

                     (5) teach various levels of Physics, Chemistry and middle school science classes.

1994-97        Physics Education Specialist: University of South Alabama, Mobile, AL

                     Supported Physics programs in 28 Public High Schools in southwest Alabama.   Provided

                     teacher training, classroom visits, demonstrations, laboratory experiences and authored teacher

                     support materials for the "Science in Motion" project

1987-97        Teacher: Mobile County Public School System at Murphy High School.  Taught Physics,     

                     Advanced Placement Physics, Physical Science, SECME Coordinator (to encourage minority

                     students in science); Chess Team Coach, Physics Team Sponsor, Superintendent Advisory

                     Provided services for  USA Division of Field Services as an "agent of change." Observed,

2002-5      Workshop Leader for NSF sponsored "Modeling" program at Arizona State University

2002;         Reader for College Board Advanced Placement Physics Program

2001          Principal Investigator of Students as Plasma Researchers funded by the Toyota Foundation to

                  fund equipment acquisition, workshops and teacher training related to plasma science.

1998-        Coached UMS-Wright Physics Team that consistently placed as a top team

                  in a variety of categories including Drill, Problem Solving and Lab events at numerous

                  competitions (Alabama High School Physics Contest, Auburn Physics Invitational, Mississippi

                  State  University Discovery). Students were consistent top winners during these years with

                  numerous awards and scholarships.

1988-        Coached Chess Teams that won 1st in both the region and state of Alabama from 1988-1993

                 UMS-Wright Chess Teams have posted among top third of all teams each year

1999-        Mentored numerous UMS-Wright students winning Science Fair and EXPO's at the regional,       

                 state, national and international levels.  2nd in the Nation at the Adventures in Supercomputing

                 Expo in Washington, D.C. and national winners at the Intel International Science Fair.

8/98          Author and Director of Students as Scientists funded by the Crampton Trust to fund four stations

                 with computers, microscopes and graphics input equipment for 5th grade students.

4/97          Elected President of the Alabama Association of Presidential Award Winners

10/96        Panelist for National Assessment of Educational Progress. Assisted in setting performance

                 standards for Science assessments (in Phoenix, Arizona)

2/94,95     Reviewed state Eisenhower Grant Applications for Alabama Commission of Higher Education

                 of Bowling" unit development.
